Food Safety Officer I/II (Non-Civil Service Vacancies)

Food Safety Officer I/II (Salary: HK$124,755/ $117,585 per month (Note (b)))

Entry Requirements: Candidates should have -

  1. (i) a university degree and a Master of Science degree in Food Science/Food Technology/Nutritional Science/Dietetics/Food Toxicology/Food Microbiology/Food Biotechnology, or related subjects from a Hong Kong university, or equivalent; preference will be given to candidates with a Master of Public Health or related discipline with training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at post-graduate level; AND (ii) at least ten years' relevant post-graduate experience [Note (a)] in food safety and related field, including standard-setting work on food safety; five years of which should be in a position with supervisory responsibilities [Note (b)]; and
  2. Level 2 or above in Chinese and English Language in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, or equivalent; or Level 2/Grade E or above in Chinese and English Language in Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, [Note (c)], or equivalent.

[Note: (a) Counted from after obtaining relevant BACHELOR degree.
(b) Applicants with less than 5 years' relevant supervisory experience by the closing date for application may also apply. If selected, he/she will be appointed as Food Safety Officer II at a sub entry point i.e. starting at HK$117,585 per month. Food Safety Officer II confirmed to have attained five years of relevant supervisory experience during his/her course of employment with satisfactory performance, will be appointed as Food Safety Officer I.
(c) For appointment purpose, 'Grade E' in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to 'Level 2' in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.
(d) Candidates should give a detailed account of their working experience in the application forms.

Duties:

  1. Overseeing the planning and implementation of a Total Diet Study;
  2. Developing and enhancing the computer programme for dietary exposure assessment;
  3. Reviewing and updating food safety standards and liaising with concerned parties; and
  4. Performing any other duties as assigned by senior officers.

[Note: may be required to work irregular hours]

Terms of Appointment: Successful candidates will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for a period of not more than 36 months.  Further employment may be offered at the absolute discretion of the Department, subject to operational need of the Department and satisfactory performance and conduct of the staff.

Gratuity (only applicable to appointee with contract of 12 months or more): A gratuity may be granted upon satisfactory completion of the contract with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, if granted, plus any contribution made by the Government to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.

Fringe Benefits: Candidates appointed are eligible for 14 days' paid annual leave. Other benefits such as rest days, statutory holidays, general holidays, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

Applicants should state in detail in the application forms their professional/academic qualifications and employment records with post title and detailed description of duties (including number of supervisory year(s) and staff under supervision (rank and post title)). ALL applicants (application by post and online) should send by POST not later than 18 December 2020 (The postmark date on the envelope will be regarded as the date of submission of supporting documents) to the contact address below photocopies of ALL documentary proof in support of the professional/ academic qualifications and employment record stated in the application form. Copies of publications by candidates related to food safety are welcome to be submitted for consideration. Candidates holding qualifications obtained from academic institutions outside Hong Kong should submit photocopies of their official certificates, transcripts of studies and official documents issued by the relevant academic institutions which stated the mode of delivery (e.g. full time / part time, on campus / distance learning, etc.) of the study programmes.

Applications which are not made in the prescribed form, or incomplete, or late, or submitted by fax / email will not be considered. Applications without sending photocopies of the supporting documents as required on or before 18 December 2020 will be regarded as incomplete and not be considered. Candidates who are selected for selection interview will normally receive an invitation by e-mail in about six to eight weeks from the closing date for application. Those who are not invited for selection interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful.

General Notes:
