The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) provides a wide range of services from food surveillance and control to the planning and delivery of environmental hygiene services and public education on food safety and environmental cleanliness messages.

With an establishment of some 11,000, the Department delivers its services through the Centre for Food Safety, the Environmental Hygiene Branch and the Administration and Development Branch.

4 January to 5 March The promotion phase of the Anti-rodent Campaign 2010 is launched, targeting markets, market buildings, hawker bazaars, typhoon shelters, food premises, rear lanes close to food premises and other problematic spots identified in the territory.
23 January The Department launches a pilot scheme to provide free ferry service to facilitate the public to scatter human ashes at sea.
February
8 to 14 February Fourteen Lunar New Year Fairs are held in 12 districts.
12 February The Centre for Food Safety and the Consumer Council release results of a joint study on microbiological quality of Chinese cold dishes in Hong Kong.
14 to 28 February Lunar New Year Fairs are held at Che Kung Temple, Sha Tin, and Lam Tsuen, Tai Po.

1 March Mong Kok Market is closed.
1 to 26 March The first phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign 2010 is launched to arouse public awareness and encourage community participation in mosquito control and prevention.
10 to 30 March Applications for 218 Fixed Pitch (Other Classes) Hawker Licences are invited.
15 March The Centre for Food Safety and the Consumer Council launch a new series of five articles on nutrition labelling in the CHOICE Magazine between March and July.

8 and 9 April The Department invites rodent control experts from the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention and the Office of Patriotic Health Campaign Committee of Guangdong Province to visit Hong Kong and to share with their experiences on pest control.  
26 April to 2 July The second phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign commences, focusing on the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding places during the rainy season.
30 April The Centre for Food Safety releases results of the Hong Kong Population-Based Food Consumption Survey.

17 May One-off Tenancy Transfer Scheme of Public Market Stalls is rolled out.
June
8 June The Administration's decision to shelve the Poultry Slaughtering Centre is reported to the LegCo Panel on Food Safety and Environmental Hygiene.
10 June The memorial e-service (memorial.gov.hk) is introduced to facilitate the public to pay tribute to the deceased at any time and from anywhere.
28 June Food Safety Day 2010 with the theme "For Your Health, Count on the Nutrition Label 1+7" is staged at the Southorn Stadium.
End June Tang Lung Chau Market is consolidated from two floors into one single floor.
July
1 July The Food and Drugs (Composition and Labelling)(Amendment: Requirements for Nutrition Labelling and Nutrition Claim) Regulation 2008 comes into effect.
6 July A series of food hygiene seminars for the trade and the public is conducted from July to December to promote food safety.
12 July to 10 September The enhancement phase of the Anti-rodent Campaign is launched to sustain and consolidate the work carried out during the promotion phase and to strengthen rodent control in targeted areas.
30 July The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on nitrate and nitrite in vegetables available in Hong Kong.

1 August The Composite Food Shop Licence is introduced for traders selling and preparing for sale of various specified types of simple or ready-to-eat food items for consumption off the premises concerned.
1 August The food room area ratio for licensed restaurants and factory canteens are relaxed.
1 August The Liquor Licence Processing System is rolled out. It allows the trade to lodge on-line applications for liquor and club liquor licences, make electronic payment of related licence fees and track application status.
1 August Extraction, supply, delivery or use of seawater from specified areas for keeping live seafood for human consumption in the course of food business is prohibited.
1 August Neotame and steviol glycosides are added to the list of permitted sweeteners under the Sweeteners in Food Regulations.
16 August to 8 October The third phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign is launched to highlight the risk of dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis and sustain community effort in controlling the vectors.
September
22 September to 7 November The Department takes immediate follow-up mosquito control measures to guard against breeding of dengue fever vectors in the wake of four reported cases of local dengue fever.
24 September The Centre for Food Safety invites food traders to sign up to the Food Safety Charter 2010/11.
27 September The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on nanotechnology and food safety.

4 and 5 October Experts from the World Health Organization, Australia, Denmark, the Mainland and Hong Kong speak at the Veterinary Public Health Workshop organised by the Centre for Food Safety.
15 October A pilot scheme to let out market stalls by short-term tenancy is introduced.
22 October The Centre for Food Safety is designated as the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Risk Analysis of Chemicals in Food.
25 October The permitted commodity list of small ice-cream vendors as sideline business is expanded.
November
6 November Mr Clement Leung succeeds Mr Cheuk Wing-hing as the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene.
12 November A series of food safety educational programme is organised for lunch box caterers from November to December.
26 November The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on safety of melamine-ware available for use on local food premises.
December
1 to 3 December The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene pays a visit to the hairy crab raising region in Suzhou, Jiangsu. He meets the officials of General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) and local China Inspection and Quarantine Bureau to discuss inspection and quarantine of food exported to Hong Kong.
6 and 7 December The Secretary for Food and Health, the Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene and Controller of the Centre for Food Safety meet with the Minister of AQSIQ, Mr Zhi Shuping; inspect a cattle slaughtering and processing plant and a farm in Changchun, Jilin Province; and meet officials of the AQSIQ to finalise the chilled beef import protocol.
15 December The Centre for Food Safety and the Consumer Council announce results of a joint study on acrylamide in some popular foods. The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on dietary exposure to acrylamide of Hong Kong adult population.
15 December Extension of the options of ex-gratia payment under the voluntary surrender scheme for itinerant hawker licences for two years to 31 December 2012 is announced.
23 and 24 December The Centre for Food Safety sets up an exhibition booth at the 45 th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo to promote nutrition labelling and food safety.
30 December The Centre for Food Safety announces results of a study on hepatitis E virus in fresh pig livers.
31 December The first consignment of chilled beef from the Mainland arrives in Hong Kong.
