FEHD deeply saddened by death of outsourced staff in Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) is very concerned about the work accident that happened in the Sheung Shui Slaughterhouse (SSSH) today (January 20). Saddened by the death of a staff member of its outsourced contractor in the accident, the department expressed its deepest condolences to the deceased's family and has requested the contractor to provide all necessary assistance to his family.
While relevant government departments are investigating the cause of the accident, the FEHD has asked the contractor to fully co-operate with the investigation. The department has also reminded the contractor to strictly abide by the relevant occupational safety and health requirements in accordance with the contractual terms to ensure that staff members are working under safe conditions.
The location of the accident is not the main slaughtering production line of the SSSH. The slaughtering service remains normal and the supply of fresh meat is not affected.
