The Mobile Education Centre (MEC) under the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) makes visits to schools, housing estates and public parks to provide the public with more information on food, personal and environmental hygiene through innovative and educational approach. The MEC is open for booking by all organizations free of charge.
Introduction
The MEC is a publicity vehicle and its body is decorated with cartoons introducing food safety and public hygiene services provided by FEHD. The MEC is equipped with touch screen computer sets to display thematic information and games. Explanation will be provided by the on-site staff. Visitors can also browse the contents or participate in the interactive computer games to learn more about the following four themes:
- Personal, Domestic and Environmental Hygiene;
- 5 Keys to Food Safety and Food Labelling;
- Pest Control; and
- Green Burial.
Besides, there are informative panels and leaflets in the MEC. At the Model Corner, visitors can know more about the life cycle of mosquito breeding and the commonly found rodent species in urban area. TVs are installed inside and at the exterior part of the MEC for visitors to watch videos produced by the department. Display of panels and delivery of health talks on food and environmental hygiene at the display venue can also be arranged upon request by the applicants. - When Typhoon Signal No. 3 or Red Rainstorm Warning or above is issued, the current programme will be cancelled and the event will be postponed;
- When Typhoon Signal No. 1 or Amber Rainstorm Warning is issued, the programme will continue.
