Application for Cremation of Exhumed Remains/Allocation of Urn Grave/Relocation to other Cemetery/Return to Native Place/Exportation
(Applicable to Remains Buried in a Public Cemetery)
Applicant has to apply in person at the Cemeteries and Crematoria Office of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) in Hung Hom or Happy Valley. The procedures are as follows :
- apply for Application for Permit to Remove/ Exhume Remains (Please refer to Notes on Burial and Exhumation Service (5) for details);
- if the applicant wishes to have the deceased's remains:
- cremated - pay the prescribed fees for the Exhumation Permit as well as for cremation after completing “Application for Cremation of Skeletal Remains (FEHB 263)”. The deceased's remains may cremate either at Wo Hop Shek Crematorium or Cheung Chau Crematorium;
- buried in FEHD's urn grave - pay the prescribed fees for the Exhumation Permit and for allocation of an urn grave after completing “Application for Urn Grave Burial or Placing Additional Skeletal Remains/Ashes (FEHB 262) (this service is only available in the Hung Hom Office);
- relocated to other private cemetery - produce the original and copy of the letter permitting the burial issued by the cemetery where the exhumed remains are to be buried and pay the fee for the Exhumation Permit;
- relocated to Mainland China - produce the original and copies of the documents permitting the burial in the deceased's native place issued by the local Chinese authority (name of the deceased must be identical with FEHD's records) and pay the fee for the Exhumation Permit;
- exported - produce the originals and copies of the documents permitting the burial issued by the overseas cemetery where the remains are to be buried as well as the documents for the import of exhumed remains (name of the deceased should appear clearly in the documents and be identical with FEHD's records) and pay the fee for the Exhumation Permit;
- pay the fees at the shroff office after completing the procedures;
- after payment, collect the relevant documents and receipt from the permit office and arrange with the relevant cemetery for exhumation, relocation or cremation of the deceased.
