The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) provides a wide range of services from food surveillance and control to the planning and delivery of environmental hygiene services and public education on food safety and environmental cleanliness messages.

With an establishment of some 11,000, the Department delivers its services through the Centre for Food Safety, the Environmental Hygiene Branch and the Administration and Development Branch.

6 January A three-month public consultation on the "Proposed Regulatory Framework on Nutrition and Health Claims on Infant Formula, Follow-up Formula, and Prepackaged Foods for Infants and Young Children Under the Age of 36 Months in Hong Kong" commences.
12 January to 20 March The first phase of the Anti-rodent Campaign 2015 is launched, targeting markets, municipal services buildings, hawker bazaars, typhoon shelters, lanes adjacent to food premises and other problematic spots identified in the territory.
16 January The Centre for Food Safety launches a Facebook page on Hong Kong's Action on Salt and Sugar Reduction.

13 to 19 February A total of 15 Lunar New Year Fairs are held in 13 districts.
19 February to 5 March The Department holds Lunar New Year Fairs at Che Kung Temple, Sha Tin and Lam Tsuen Fong Ma Po, Tai Po.
23 February to 27 March The first phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign 2015 is launched to arouse public awareness and encourage community participation in mosquito prevention and control.

16 March The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on Nutrient Content of Children's Meals in Hong Kong conducted jointly with the Consumer Council.
27 March and 10 April The Department arranges memorial sailings during the Ching Ming Festival for the public to pay tribute to their loved ones whose ashes were scattered at sea.

27 April to 3 July The second phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign is launched, focusing on the importance of eliminating mosquito breeding places during the rainy season.

11 May The Centre for Food Safety holds the second meeting of the International Advisory Panel on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food (IAP).
12 to 13 May The Centre for Food Safety organises an International Symposium on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food for experts and different stakeholders to exchange views on how to reduce the intake of salt and sugar in food so as to promote a healthy diet with less salt and sugar.

11 June The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on Dietary Exposure to Non-Dioxin-Like Polychlorinated Biphenyls of Hong Kong Adult Population.
26 June The Department holds an award presentation ceremony to commend the winning students for their outstanding performance in the Internet Memorial Service Essay Competition.
26 June The Centre for Food Safety organises a series of activities under the theme "Hong Kong's Action on Salt and Sugar Reduction" to raise public awareness on the importance of reducing dietary salt and sugar intake and encourage the public to develop a healthy eating habit with less salt and sugar. Such initiatives include a Salt and Sugar Reduction & Nutrition Labelling Video Competition.
July
1 July The one-year concession period of the targeted short-term measures to support the sectors as announced by the Financial Secretary in the 2015-16 Budget commences. The fees payable for the issue or renewal of restaurant licences, restricted food permits and hawker licences with the commencement date falling within the concession period will be waived for a maximum period of six months.
3 to 5 July The Department joins the Hong Kong Retiree & Senior Fair 2015 to promote green burials, including scattering of ashes in Gardens of Remembrance and at sea, as well as the Internet Memorial Service to senior citizens and retirees.
6 July to 4 September The second phase of the Anti-rodent Campaign is launched to sustain and consolidate the work carried out during the first phase and to enhance rodent control measures in targeted areas.
7 July A three-month public consultation on the Legislative Proposals on Regulation of Edible Fats and Oils and Recycling of "Waste Cooking Oils" commences.
10 July A graduation ceremony is held for 316 newly recruited officers in the ranks of Health Inspector II, Assistant Hawker Control Officer and Foreman who have attended the Induction Training Programmes in 2015.
29 July The Centre for Food Safety releases study results on Microbiological Quality of Sushi and Sashimi in Hong Kong.
August
1 August to 30 September To step up the work of maintaining a clean and hygienic environment and enhance the preparedness to fight against communicable diseases, the Government launches a two-month "Keep Clean 2015 @ Hong Kong: Our Home" Campaign. During the campaign, the Department enhances street washing, cleansing, and pest control services at hygiene blackspots, locations with conglomeration of wild birds as well as facilities such as public toilets, aqua privies, refuse collection points, hawker bazaars, cooked food hawker bazaars, markets and cooked food markets, and strengthens enforcement actions.
6 August The Department holds an annual forum with service contractors to promote understanding of and compliance with tender/contract requirements.
13 August The Centre for Food Safety holds health talks on "Food Safety cum Hong Kong's Action on Salt & Sugar Reduction" at the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Food Expo 2015.
17 August to 9 October The third phase of the Anti-mosquito Campaign is launched to highlight the risk of dengue fever and Japanese encephalitis and to sustain community efforts in controlling the vectors.
26 August The Department completes the third phase allocation for new niches at Wo Hop Shek Kiu Tau Road Columbarium Phase V and Diamond Hill Columbarium. A total of 5069 new standard niches at Wo Hop Shek Kiu Tau Road Columbarium Phase V are unallocated.
September
4 September The Department, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, is awarded the Gold Prize for the Partnership Award in the Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme 2015. The award winning project is "Hawker Assistance Scheme in Fixed-pitch Hawker Areas to Enhance Fire Safety".
14 to 15 September The Centre for Food Safety holds "Veterinary Public Health Workshop 2015". Guest speakers from the United Kingdom and the United States share their expertise and insight on foodborne listeriosis and norovirus infection.
15 September The Centre for Food Safety holds "Food Safety Seminar for Trade 2015" at the Hong Kong Science Museum. The seminar provides a forum for interactive exchange of information and views on current food safety issues in Hong Kong between the Government and food trade.
25 September and 9 October The Department arranges memorial sailings during the Chung Yeung Festival for the public to pay tribute to their loved ones whose ashes were scattered at sea.

5 October The Department makes available the remaining 5,069 new standard niches located in Wo Hop Shek Kiu Tau Road Columbarium Phase V for public allocation. Applicants can submit applications through various means, including online submission.
27 October The Centre for Food Safety sets up a food control checkpoint for food imported by sea at Kwai Chung Customhouse.
November
6 November The Department announces plans to enhance regulation and surveillance of online sale of restricted food.
7 November The Centre for Food Safety convenes the inauguration ceremony for the 5th term of Consumer Liaison Group at Lai Chi Kok Government Offices.
16 November The Centre for Food Safety releases results of a study on Sugar Content in Popular Chinese-style Beverages Consumed with Meals conducted jointly with the Consumer Council.
23 to 26 November The Centre for Food Safety co-hosts the Meeting on Strengthening INFOSAN (International Food Safety Authorities Network) in Asia and National Food Safety Systems. The INFOSAN is jointly managed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
December
5 December The amended Imported Game, Meat, Poultry and Eggs Regulations (Cap.132AK) come into operation to extend control to imported eggs.
13 December Regulations on nutritional composition and nutrition labelling of infant formula come into operation.
16 to 17 December The Centre for Food Safety sets up an exhibition booth at the 50th Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo to promote food safety.
17 December The Department draws the selection priority of 11,413 eligible applicants in a computer ballot for the allocation of the remaining new niches at Wo Hop Shek Kiu Tau Road Columbarium Phase V. Applicants are invited in batches to select niches according to their selection priority determined by the computer ballot.
20 December Upon completion of the reprovisioning of Cape Collinson Crematorium (Phase II), the Department puts six new cremators in service by phases to meet the increasing demand for cremation service.
